Wood or poly, did you know this is one of the first questions asked when buying shutters? Wood is classic and seemingly timeless, however wood does have down falls. First, wood is prone to warping as pictured above. The wood louver above is 12 years old and already warping, flaking and falling apart. Our benefit of our aluminum-reinforced louvers is they will not warp. Why does wood warp over time? The moisture trapped in the louver beneath the paint heats up over time and slowly twists the louvers. Another disadvantage to wood shutters are painting after assembly. When painting after assembly, there are potential for runs and drips in the paint as well as potential over spray. As you can see in the picture above, not every single part of the louver is painted when the shutter panel is painted after assembly. Even though the section on the louver above is a small-unpainted area, this leaves an opening for moisture to enter and eventually warp your louvers. Alumacore is a pre-painted product that will never warp, fade or crack guaranteed. Using a synthetic material gives us control over the tolerances when producing a shutter. The moulds used when making the product are straight and square, allowing us a great product.
