By-pass shutters operate on a track system to slide shutters back and forth, much like a pocket door. We use ball bearing rollers and aluminum track to slide each panel back and forth. By-pass shutters are also called Sliding Glass Door shutters. By-pass plantation shutters have become increasingly popular over the years as an effective way to cover sliding glass doors. The most popular track options are 2 track, 3 track and 4 track. For example, a 2 track system would best be used in a 72 inch wide opening. There would be two panels for the entire opening thanks to our aluminum reinforced louvers. We can build panels up to 36” inches wide. Each panel would operate separately on their own track. Another example of our popular 3 track system would be a 109” inch sliding glass door opening, allowing 3 independent panels to operate separately on their on track system. Also, we can make a track system to any length. Are you concerned that shutters would take up space of a view? We can extend the track to create a ‘stack off’ allowing the panels to move past the opening to give you the potential of a full view.
There are many benefits to using plantation shutters on your sliding glass door; light control and privacy are two of the main reasons. When using a shutter the louvers can be titled for complete control of the light entering the room. Since plantation shutters are non-transparent, they offer the most privacy of any window covering available on the market. This is extremely important on a large window as a sliding glass door.
